DANCING WITH THE STARS 10 EPISODE 2

Part Two, Heading for the First Elimination
March 29, 2010

Tonight's competition scores will be added to those of last week and the combined two-week score will determine who will be eliminated.

Recorded in Order of Performance

Shannen Doherty & Mark Ballas danced the Jive and although there seemed to be some improvements the judges were not thrilled. Shannen was complimented for engaging with the audience. Score: 20 Total: 35/60

Aiden Turner & Edyta Sliwinska performed the Foxtrot. Aiden was acknowledged fro improving his foot work and encouraged to keep focused. Carrie Ann said "nice job" and was happy that the dance flowed throughout. Len was glad to see the improvement in the footwork, thought Aiden demonstrated improvement and said "well done". Score: 19 Total 34/60

Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskya did the Jive and met with positive comments, but again reminded Evan to point his feet. They were described as totally in control and making connection with the audience. Score: 24 Total: 47/60

Jake Pavelka & Chelsie Hightower performed the Jive and met with comments such as: "energy and determination is great"; "work on precision and technique"; and "a little heavy, work on it". Carrie Ann Innabe caught the unforgivable - a lift and as a result scored him down on the performance. Score: 20 Total: 40/60

Niecy Nash & Louie Van Amstel performed a well executed Foxtrot and was favorably judged saying she demonstrated musicality. Score: 21 Total: 39/60

Buzz Aldrin & Ashly Costa performed a Foxtrot which was best described as tender and charming and a nice effort. Buzz was described as an inspirational to people, particularly older people. Score: 12 Total: 26/60

Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough performed the Jive with lots of vigor. Their performance could be described by each judge using one word each. " sensational" and "perfection" Carrie Ann Innabe said that she felt ambivalent about the dancing. ( Still question in my mind that Nicole should be in the line-up despite her protests that she's a singer, not a dancer. She does a lot of dancing for someone who is not a dancer.) This couple received the first 10's of this season. Score:28 Total: 53/60

Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovsky performed a Foxtrot. Compliments were in line. She was described as natural and having stunning arms movements and does well at linking movements together. Len felt that she was a beautiful lyrical dancer but that she held a death-grip hold on her partner. There was some recognition that she needs to improve her footwork. Score: 23 Total: 44/60

Pamela Anderson & Damian Whitewood danced a Foxtrot and was a recognizable tribute to Marilyn Monroe. Comments included that she is versatile and that the dance was well executed, but recommendations for improvement were also forthcoming; improve posture and footwork. Score: 22 Total: 43/60

Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl Burke danced the Foxtrot. Although the judges feel that he has potential they did not see improvement this week and described the dance as "like a snowstorm, glad when it's over". Score: 16 Total: 34/60

Kate Gosselin & Tony Dovolani performed the Jive, despite a tumultuous week in rehearsal. There seem to be problems in paradise. Her performance was described as "going through the motions" as she was instructed to "perform". Despite the fact that Carrie Ann Innabe told her that her feet came off the floor, constituting a "lift", she got through the routine. It was expressed that her nerves are getting in her way and that "nerves will make or break you". Truthfully, Kate has proven a real disappointment and I feel that there's more trouble ahead. Attitude is a lot in this competition and I don't feel that she has a healthy attitude about this experience. Perhaps this is giving us some real insight as to "troubles for Kate". Score: 15 Total: 31/60

Len Goodman shared his thoughts of the season which included:

  • Season is "Overall, fantastic"
  • Jake has great potential, he's the one to watch.
  • Niecy is fantastic
  • Ochocinco is very disappointing
  • Kate, you can tell her nerves are getting the best of her.
  • Evan did a great Jive, although he didn't expect it to be good.
  • Nicole is a huge talent, a fantastic dancer.

Len, in costume presented what he called the Ten Commandments of Dance; some of which were: Shall not kill time; Shall not take the Judges' name in vain; Shall not steal dance moves; Shall not interrupt Len; Shall not do lifts; and Shall wear lots of rhinestones.

Nicole and Derek were asked for an encore performance of their Jive.

Throughout the evening, there was entertainment, singing and dancing. The Beach Boys performed several songs with dancers from the professional staff of DWTS dancing. Adam Carolla gave his comedic commentary about the show and professional dancers danced a special choreographed dance by Stacy Walker and Travis Payne.

THE RESULTS

Tom Bergeron revealed those couples who were safe and the two couples in the BOTTOM TWO, based on judges and audience votes. The two couples in the bottom were Pamela Anderson & Damian Whitewood and Shannen Doherty and Mark Ballas. Shannen Doherty was eliminated. It was announced that Mark Ballas had injured his knee and was facing possible surgery.
