20/20 - INSIDE THE STORIES BEHIND THE LAST ROSE

THE TRUTH REVEALED
ABC's 20/20 set out to present some realities about this popular reality show.
The first Bachelor show followed close behind the show entitled, Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire, in 2002. Do you remember that one? I do. I also remember my thoughts about it, too. "Crazy", "Crazy" I thought. Then came the Bachelor shortly to be followed by the Bachelorette. The Bachelor was created by Mike Fleiss and is as popular today as it was at it's inception. The show was "addictified" and has fostered catch-phrases and generated parodies seen on other shows.
Guests on 20/2o described it as a soap opera type except that it's real, not fiction and like a game show.

How is the cast determined? Auditions, for both the bachelor/bachelorette and the 25 partner-potentials. We are familiar with what seems to have become traditional - a rejected contestant becomes the bachelor/bachelorette. The reason that happens is because the person is the fan's favorite and the producer's first choice. i.e. Jake Pavelka, of Season 14 was selected for his apparent sincerity. Sometimes a person may be selected as a cast member because of some "negative" which can be used to enhance the show. To add to the drama, fan attraction, etc.
What types of people are selected for the show? The Alpha Male, the Drama Queen, The Mother, The shy One, The Weeper, The Whisperer, and The Career Opportunist or any other "type" that will attract a following. Let's just say, the "personality".
What is the process for selected "cast" members? The submission of video tape for review and selection as potential "cast". Then submit to personal interviews. HIV testing- for obvious legal reasons. Make-over, as deemed necessary to make for the best presentation. i.e. Up to as much as $20,000 in dental/orthodontal treatment. (soooo, what you see is NOT what they got! THEY make what you/we see.) Then there is wardrobe, etc. to prepare the cast for the lavish life-style they will be portraying.
