DANCING WITH THE STARS 10 4/18/2010

Music Night
Hit songs from the big screen favorites.

1. Niecy Nash & Louis Van Amstel - performed a Jive from "LaBamba". In general, the judges complimented her on the evening's performance. Although Len felt it was a little bit soft and that there needed to be more bounce below the waist, he said it was well done. Bruno said it was sharp and precise but lacked sharpness while Carrie Ann said that Niecy was the "shimmy queen" and was having fun. Score: 18/30
2. Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl Burke popped out with a Quick-Step to The Bare Necessities from Disney's, "Jungle Book". Bruno felt it was a little too wild and fell to pieces, while Carrie Ann said it was inconsistent and the body contact was not good. Len complimented him on improvement in his posture but encouraged him to work on his legs and upper body. He deemed it as "pretty good". Score: 18/30
3. Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovsky performed a Jive from music from "Pulp Fiction". Carrie Ann liked it but felt it was a little fast and that they were ahead of the beat. Len eyed it as a tough routine and that they coped well making it a good performance. Bruno felt it was the best timing ever. Score: 22/30
4. Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower were daring with Jake in his underwear as they started their Cha Cha to music from "Risky Business". Len again complimented Jake on his effort of 100% consistently, stating that he was feeling the dance even though he caught his boo boo and that it was a little "ragged". Bruno felt that his energy was incredible and that he was a "cheeky bugger". Carrie Ann loved the dance and the "whole package".
Score: 23/30
5. Pamela Anderson & Damian Whitewood performed a Quick-Step to the theme song from "Nine to Five". She was highly complimented on her characterization as well as her overall posture, feeling that she had done a good job. Len- well, he was not happy with the performance citing that there was too much time taken up with the "props" in the performance. Score: 21/30
6. Kate Gosselin & Tony Dovolani attempted a Foxtrot to Don't Forget About Me from "The Breakfast Club" I say attempted because again the performance was far below par for this competition. It was very stiff and artificial looking. When is Kate going to dance. Even the judges described her performance as a "stroll" not a dance even though it was neat and precise. Bruno felt it was lacking life. Len did find one compliment for her- evidence of some bit of grace developing although his statement of it's needing "a post mortem, not a critique" said it all. Score: 15/30 ( I feel even that was generous)
7. Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough performed a flashy Tango to the theme song of "Pretty Woman". Wow, what a performance it was, too. The first standing ovation that I can remember. Len said that it was her best dance and as a matter of fact, the best dance this season. Bruno felt that she was at the top of the game. Carrie commented on her performance saying that her lines are incredible and her shape is great. Score: 29/30
8. Evan Lysacek & Anna Trabunskaya danced a Rumba inspired by "Armageddon" It was a sexy, stylish performance. Bruno complimented that the execution was "spot on" and that his hip action is improving. Carrie Ann agreed that it was "beautiful". Len was positive in his compliments concerning Evan's immaculate artistry and fluidity. He said, "good job". Score: 27/30

The Results
  • Len gave his capsule of last evenings show expressing that he thought that Movie Night was overall "Great" and was a magical experience. He said that the dancing was good, but good isn't good enough.
  • The judges chose Jake and Chelsie for the encore performance. Gosh, a second night with Jake in his underwear. The Cha-Cha was well performed and real entertainment.
  • The guest entertainers for the evening were: Maxwell who sang "Fist Fill of Tears"; Macy's Stars of Dancing who presented a tribute to the movies and was most enjoyable. The final guest was Debbie Nova who sang while professional dancers performed during her rendition.
  • Adam Carolla quipped about performances and performers. A light side for the evening.
  • Of course the purpose of the evening was to reveal the celebrity to be eliminated. We watched with baited breath. Each person had his/her own choice but I'm sure (based on blogging remarks) that many were satisfied with the outcome. The two couples in the bottom were Pamela Anderson & Damian Whitewood and Kate Gosselin & Tony Dovolani. To put a positive spin on the elimination... Kate Gosselin was the chosen one.

Good Bye Kate

So happy for Tony!

Tune in next week when the celebrity contestants will be designing the costumes for the evening.
