AMERICAN IDOL 9 - APRIL 20 &21,2010

THEME: INSPIRATIONAL SONGS

Mentor: Alicia Keyes

1.) Casey James - Don't Stop - Fleetwood Mac - Randy said that it was a good performance but not his best. He was looking for something different. Ellen said it was a great guitar and that his performance was good but that it needs to be "great". Kara felt that Casey was not showing what makes him different. Simon said it was not an inspiring performance and felt that it was a crazy choice of song.

2.) Lee DeWyze - The Boxer - Simon & Garfunkel - Randy complimented him by saying he was a great artist and Ellen thought that it was a beautiful song choice and that it had some depth to it. Kara exclaimed that he had his moment tonight and that he was connected to the song. Simon was quite complimentary and said that it was sincere, emotional and inspirational and called it "brilliant".

3.) Tim Urban - Better Days - Goo Goo Dolls - Randy said it was an interesting choice but that it was like good karaoke. Ellen quipped that it was sort of like the soup of the day... sometimes you like it and sometimes you don't.. and she didn't. Kara's main comment was that it was not the best execution of the song. Simon said that although Tim has improved, this was a little bit of a let down.

4.) Aaron Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly - Randy commented that Aaron picked a giant song and that he has a huge voice with good vocal power. Ellen too commented on his big voice and thought that it was a big song to take on. Kara expressed some mixed feelings describing the song as a "take off" ( meaning like a plane takes off) Simon said that it wasn't very good but that he made it good.

5.) Siobhan Magnus - When You Believe - Randy thought it was the toughest song of the night but that the performance was "just okay". Ellen felt that the performance was more confirmation as to why Siobhan's still here. Kara was left with the same comment as previously made... "still don't know who you are" while Simon felt that it was a bit odd and all over the place.

6.) Michael Lynche - Hero - Randy was worried about the song but complimented him about holding his own. Ellen felt that he did a great job. Kara said that it was not her favorite and felt that it was all over the place. Simon said that he did a good job although it felt artificial but added " I still think you'll be around next week".

7.) Crystal Bowersox - You Will Get Ready - Randy said that he has been a fan since day one and Ellen complimented her on her beauty and thought that she is evolving and growing. Kara felt that Crystal took a risk, called her Mama Socks and said that she had just schooled the others. Simon said " that was beautiful" He expressed that she sang it fantastically and that she is in a different class from all the others.

WHO WILL BE VOTED OFF TOMORROW?

Since Wednesday's show is a two hour "IDOL GIVES BACK" show I will be commenting only on the elimination.
