AMERICAN IDOL 9 - APRIL 13&14,2010

THE MUSIC OF ELVIS PRESLEY
The mentor for this week is Adam Lambert. He gave personal advice to each contestant and advised them all to "be honest, listen, look at the audience, and feel the song".

1.) Crystal Bowersox - Saved Was well received by all the judges. Described as energetic, up tempo, and that the arrangement gave the song drama.
2.) Andrew Garcia - Hound Dog Although Ellen said she liked the change and that he pulled it off, Randy, Kara and Simon were not complimentary stating that it was "good" karaoke, needed swagger and that it was lazy, unpredictable and didn't feel like a star performance.
3.) Tim Urban - Can't Help Falling In Love With You Tim received some of his best comments from the judges. Kara said it was her favorite "Tim" performance ever and Simon described it as "beautiful" and that he went from Zero to Hero in two weeks.
4.) Lee DeWyze - A Little Less Conversation Again, the judges gave compliments on this performance. Simon felt he "nailed" the song and was on the money from the start. Kara said that he "went for it vocally" and that the vocal was on fire. Ellen liked it because he made it current and that his performance showed more confidence.
5.) Aaron Kelly - Blue Suede Shoes Randy said that he started off strange but that he sang it as "blues". Ellen thought it was a big song to take on and that he didn't get all the way there.Kara liked it but felt that he was out of his comfort zone. Simon again said it was a very old fashioned song sung in a karaoke manner. He was not crazy about it.
6.) Siobhan Magnus - Suspicious Minds ( She is a big Elvis Fan) Randy said that she took some risks, especially using "both voices". Ellen said she "looks great" and that she liked the second half. She thought it was beautiful and the she did come alive. Kara had some difficulty describing her feelings about Siobhan's two voices and said that she was not crazy about it and that it was "confusing for me". Simon said it was like being in a time machine. He felt that she lost who she was 2 or 3 weeks ago. He went on to say that the first part was terrible and the song was erratic and "screechy", not one of her best.
7.) Michael Lynche - In The Ghetto Not a surprise to anyone, but all of the judges liked his performance. His choice was terrific and he did the song well.
8.) Katie Stevens - Baby, What Do You Want Me To Do Randy thought she was getting "sassy" and complimented her on her vocals. Ellen liked the horn ensemble accompanying her and said "man, you can sing". Kara exclaimed, "you showed us judges. You were confident and did a good job. Simon must have heard it differently than the rest of us because his comments were that it was loud, annoying and that he didn't like the song.
9.) Casey James - Lawdy Miss Mawdy Randy said he was in the zone- soul and blues. Ellen expressed that although she liked it she felt that it was not exciting despite his good voice. Kara said that he has brilliance but felt that this one fell through. Simon felt that it was good but that it was not his best.
Next Week will be the Idol Gives Back special performance and that Queen Latifah will co-host since the show will come from two venues. The contestants will be performing inspirational songs.
Tomorrow at The Elimination show, Adam Lambert will perform in addition to Brooke White (from Season 7) and Justin Gaston.

Did you vote to save the contestant you feel is the best performer?
