DANCING WITH THE STARS 10 - MAY 10th

RACE TO THE SEMI-FINALS
In opening, Tom Bergeron commented that this season is the most successful ever! Tonight's show requires that each celebrity perform two new dances. There will be two rounds: a ballroom round and a Latin Round with assigned period themes. (That is, the dance must be appropriate to the assigned decade.) There was a guest performance of a futuristic dance by Gary and Rita Getman.
THE BALLROOM ROUND
1.) Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl Burke - Tango Len said that although it was good, Chad needs more polish and refinement while Bruno's comments surrounded the "emotional" aspects of his dancing. Carrie Ann said that Chad's attachment was good but that his posture was "funky". Score: 21/30

2.) Niecy Nash & Louis Van Amstel - Viennese Waltz Bruno started out saying that the dance was very pretty at the beginning but it soon started to look as if they were chasing around. Carrie Ann felt that there was too much "pushing" and "pulling" but that their transitions had improved. Len said that he was "pleasantly surprised" and complimented her on her improved posture but said that her arms were flying around. Score: 23/30

3.) Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovsky - Argentine Tango Carrie Ann was enthusiastic in her comments stating that Erin was "so hot" and that the performance showcased her legs; her major asset. Len called Erin a "dirty girl" and said that he "absolutely loved" the performance. Bruno said, as only he can, the he never knew that she could be so "bendy"- referring to the well executed bends and leaps. He described her as "being on fire". Score: 28/30

4.) Evan Lysacek and Anna Trabundskaya - Waltz Len said she was not sure whether she liked it or not but complimented Evan on his "great" posture and "good" footwork. Bruno liked the romance of the dance and Evan's lyrical lines. Carrie Ann said that his "lines were impeccable" but wants to see him lose himself in the moment. (He focuses so much on perfecting the routine that he doesn't allow himself to get into the moment) Score: 27/30

5.) Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough - Fox Trot Bruno was elated saying that it was 1 1/2 minutes of pure dancing. Furthermore, it was a "jewel created by a master". In closing he said " I salute you." Carrie Ann couldn't sing her praises enough, saying "It was dazzling, defying my imagination", and commending her for challenging herself. Her final comment being "You are in it to win it!" Len said that Nicole's performance was a Fox Trot and Michael Buble's music turned into an enchanting love story. "A great dance." Score: 29/30

LATIN ROUND

Interpretations from decades : 50's-90's except for the 70's and futuristic.

1.) Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl Burke - 1960's Jive Len liked the energy and fun of the performance but said that Chad's kicks were "terrible" Bruno said that Chad "pinked that jive.) Carrie Ann described the performance as "great", "groovy" but described his energy as s"sort of wild" but offered an overall "pretty good tonight". Score: 24/30

2.) Niecy Nash & Louis Van Amstel - 1990's Paso Doble (whatever that is?) Bruno told Niecy that she threw herself into it. It was sort of like an avalanche; not very good. He felt that she did not have good control of the dance. Carrie Ann told Niecy that it was her most ambitious routine but there were problems with the balance of power and that the dance was out of whack. Len sort of breathed a sigh and said "You got through the routine. Most honestly he told her that everyone has a dance that doesn't suite their personality and that the Paso Doble was hers. Score: 20/30

3.) Erin & Maksim Chmerkovsky - 1980's Rumba Carrie Ann said "you are beautiful and you dance beautifully" Len that Erin's moves were "jerky" and that she needs to smooth it out. Bruno, in his usual enthusiasm said that she and Maks make great music together but advised her focus on improving her extensions. Score: 25/30

4.) Evan Lysacek & Anna Trabundskaya Futuristic Cha-Cha Len started out telling Evan that he felt that he had a bit of luck tonight. Luck which is the fact that "futuristic" suited Evan best since he was not at his best when hip swivelling was a required element of the dance. He actually said that Evan did "great" although he confused him. Bruno liked it saying that it was inventive. Carrie Ann complimented Evan for being so committed to his character and that his "stiffness" worked well for him, tonight. Score: 26/30

5.) Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough - 1950's Paso Doble. (Before their time but choreographed what they believed it would have been like.) Bruno described it as feisty and vibrant while Carrie Ann questioned, "How did you match the fifties with the Paso Doble?" Len simply said, "nothing to say to criticize". (It was an incredible performance.) Score: 30/30
